Vintage Barbra Streisand: Fanny Brice the Funny Girl

There has always been a place in my heart for Ms. Fanny Brice, the Zigfield Girl who made it big.  The movie Funny Girl inspired by her life was the first great hit in 1968 starting Barbra Streisand.  In addition to being an entertaining film to watch it has 40s inspired 60s fashions.  Every scene showcases a drool-inducing new piece of vintage glamor.  From hats and gloves, to the over the top Chorus Girl number outfits it is a time capsule and a great example of how clothes can make a movie.

If you are a lover of clothes, vintage or otherwise Funny Girl is a movie that you have to see (or see again).

World News: Badgley Mischka’s new bridal collection shows a vintage flair

We at Cabaret have always loved vintage as a great look for brides and wedding guests, so its wonderful to see that some of the major modern designers are also looking toward vintage styling and silhouettes.

“The Badgley Mischka Bride collection for Fall 2009, presented in New York on Sunday, April 5, featured eight timeless, understated styles, from a vintage-feel Champagne-colored trumpet gown overlaid with lace to a minimally embellished strapless gown of frothy pearl-colored organza dress with diagonally placed ruffles along the trumpet skirt.”

You can read the full article here and check out our new arrivals area to see some of Cabaret’s Vintage bridal looks.

“thought you might like to see these.  I just pulled a few shots off of the
web.  The dress photographed beautifully I think.  The shoes are vintage
Gucci.. I found them in a thrift store in Austin, TX.  Score!  Thanks
again for another beautiful gown.”

One of our favorite Canadian beauties Melissa McClelland looked fabulous in her Cabaret gown as she took over the runway of the 2009 Juno Awards. She was the image of perfection in her silk and toule mauve gown and from the comments recieved by the Red Carpet watchers it was a hit!

We love you in your Cabaret Melissa!

Claudia Dey with Lee Henderson: Playwright, author and columnist

“It is all vintage, as always– and fit for a woman who is nearly four months pregnant. A silk slip from Cabaret, black suede pumps from 69 Vintage on Queen Street West, Victorian pearls (silver) from what was once Melanie’s Closet….” Dey’s elegant white evening gloves are from Cabaret too. Pictured with her is author Lee Henderson, who is pretty much owning that Marzotto Lab suit.

We love Claudia!  Look how amazing she looks.
