Cabaret Vintage New Arrival: 1960′s Silk Organza Lace Cocktail Dress

Posted on | September 17, 2010 | No Comments

This dress is our favorite new arrival of the week.  It embodies the fun and sophistication on the mid to early 60′s cocktail dress.  There is so much detail on this dress it’s hard to decide where to begin so we’ll start at the base, under it all is a nude coloured silk lining in the bodice and black for the skirt.  The bodice is very flattering with a bateau neck top that dips in the back to a v.  This is then accented with vintage lace.  The same lace makes a lovely peek-a-boo waistline that is lined with the nude silk.  The fun and flirty nature of the dress is accentuated by a full pleated skirt that is given a touch of fullness with a light tulle skirt layer underneath.    Finally, if you look carefully you will see a fine piping detail in the silk used for the bodice as well creating the impression of a pin-stripe.  For more details and images, take a look at this piece in our online boutique.

Cabaret Vintage New Arrival: 1960′s Silk Chiffon Pleated Cocktail Dress

Posted on | September 16, 2010 | No Comments

A perfect example of the quality and fine weave of silk chiffon being produced at this time period, the material of this dress is fantastic.  Midnight black, it is a bit difficult to show the complexity of the pleating in this piece.  The horizontal pleats in this dress make for great movement on the body and are placed on a slight diagonal on the bodice that is very flattering in enhancing the figure.  Above the bust line, sheer chiffon is used to create a tunic-like top.  At the back the seam above the pleated area is secured with only a hook and eye, giving a peek-a-boo look with the top seam.
