Subtle detail is the order of the day with this 1940’s original. The foundation of it all is a beautiful silk dress with a round skirt and a sweetheart neckline. Layered on top is an airy silk organza skirt that is carried to the top in a deep v that starts at the front and continues to the back creating a faux bateau look. To add to the modest look of the dress a very fine lace is used to cover the bodice and forms a high-necked collar that finished off in a light knot at the nape of the neck. Though there is a lot happening in the dress in details, the overall look of the piece is unified and quite beautiful.

This dress is an vintage a-line beauty from the lauded St. Regis Room (Simpson’s Department Store) Private Label.  The sunny gold colour shimmers slightly from the fine weave of raw silk.  In fantastic condition!

An absolute favorite! Not just because it photographs really well (perfect for a red carpet appearance) but also because has fantastic fit, finishing, and details. It has a modified sheath construction with a little bow detail. The silk used is a very thick weave and has a beautiful subtle shine. This dress is a winner.

Cabaret Vintage featured on Vitamin Daily

Thanks Vitamin Daily for the lovely story on some of our favorite ladies finding their perfect dresses at Cabaret.  If you aren’t already reading Vitamin Daily what are you waiting for?  We love their feature of hidden gems.

This dress is a Marty Modell of Switzerland original Couture design from the mid 1960s. Though small in size, it is a great collector piece and example of his work during this period. In near perfect condition, it would make a great addition to a vintage couture collector’s closet. The dress consists of a silk under-dress with a burn-out velvet accented over-dress in black. It has a fantastic cut and his signature drape on the left side at the waist.
