Cabaret Vintage at Sex and The City 2 Early Screening

Check out all of the lovely ladies who we met at the Sex and The City 2 early screening two weeks ago.  It was a fantastic evening full of fun and great dresses.  It was so wonderful to see so many theatre goers wearing more than jeans and flip flops to a film.  Our favorites included fantastic light summer little black dresses and a couple of vintage prints.

The film itself was a feast for the eyes and we loved the fantastic vintage pieces that were mixed with contributions from contempoary designers.  We are huge Sex and the City fans here at Cabaret and can’t wait to find out if there will be a third installment to the movies as well.

New Vintage Arrival: Onyx Grecian-style Jersey Dress with detailed collar

This dress is my favorite of the week.  Its classic Grecian-style construction is modernized with the use of 1980’s Jersey and a beaded accent at the neckline.  The draping on this dress is phenomenal and is very flattering to a variety of figure-types.  Also, slightly hidden in the picture is a split in the skirt to allow the easy movement and fluidity of fabric that both Greek gowns and jersey are known for.

New Vintage Arrival: 1950s Strapless Silk Organza Gown in Coral

Flouncy, would best describe the naturally voluminous skirt of this dress. In a beautiful bright coral colour, this vintage silk organza dress is perfect to bear your lovely shoulders this summer. The bodice uses a gathered technique that ruffles organza over the solid opaque silk base fabric.

Vintage Barbra Streisand: Fanny Brice the Funny Girl

There has always been a place in my heart for Ms. Fanny Brice, the Zigfield Girl who made it big.  The movie Funny Girl inspired by her life was the first great hit in 1968 starting Barbra Streisand.  In addition to being an entertaining film to watch it has 40s inspired 60s fashions.  Every scene showcases a drool-inducing new piece of vintage glamor.  From hats and gloves, to the over the top Chorus Girl number outfits it is a time capsule and a great example of how clothes can make a movie.

If you are a lover of clothes, vintage or otherwise Funny Girl is a movie that you have to see (or see again).
