Celebrity Vintage and the Toronto Film Festival

It used to be that vintage clothes were only worn by artists, eccentrics, and people who couldn’t afford to go shopping at the mall. Not anymore!

Today, some vintage clothes are as popular as the hottest designer labels. At the same time, many of the new clothes from the Fashion Runways to H&M and Zara are more obviously “vintage inspired” than ever! And celebrities wearing vintage…

What’s going on?

First, in fashion today, pretty much anything goes. Sure there will always be “trendy” items that will be the focus of a given season, but more than ever, a confident woman has license to wear anything and everything that she desires. In fact, mixing high-end designer clothes with vintage finds, like Sarah Jessica Parker and many celebrity stylists, is becoming an enviable art.

In addition, more and more celebrities are being photographed wearing vintage pieces and the World loves its celebrities. From Julia Roberts’ gorgeous vintage Valentino Oscar gown to Sienna Miller’s vintage outfits on the streets of London, New York and Toronto, as we see more celebrities embracing vintage fashion, we start to embrace it, too.

Toronto is actually well known for its vintage fashion.  We constantly hear that Cabaret, and Queen West, are ‘shopping musts’ for the dozens of celebrities, world travelers and designers that come and shop with us.  The area is known as a vintage fashion hotspot in the world, without the crushing prices of New York and London, because of numerous articles in some of the world’s most exclusive travel guides.  From Hip hop’s Andre 3000 , rockers, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand, to starlets, Mandy Moore and Natalie Portman and many more, they have all shopped at Cabaret.

So don’t be surprised to see the many of the Toronto international Film Festival stars shopping in West Queen West at Cabaret, I Miss You or 69 Vintage and not just the obvious Yorkville spots.  At a certain point, anyone with money can buy new designer clothing, but with vintage there’s only one, and it’s always now or never!

What are you waiting for? If you’ve never worn vintage before, perhaps now is the time to start.
